ECU Software Test Engineer
Work hands-on with ECU software validation, HIL setups, and Python-based test automation in a role where your analysis directly improves software quality.
About the Company
At Avaron, you get the security of permanent employment combined with the variety of working at different customers. We place specialists across everything from tech, IT and industry to project management and business support – and whatever the assignment, you have a consultant manager who is there for you and your development.
About the Role
You will play an important part in securing high-quality embedded software before it reaches the customer. The focus is on validating ECU software deliveries, both from external suppliers and internal development, with special attention to base functionalities such as diagnostics and communication.
This is a hands-on role where you combine requirement analysis, test design, execution, and troubleshooting in bench, vehicle, and HIL environments. You will work close to the software itself, investigate behavior in detail, and help improve both implementation and test coverage. If you enjoy embedded systems, traceable testing, and technical problem-solving in a complex ECU environment, this role gives you real impact on the final software delivery.
Job Description
- You will analyze software requirements for ECU base functionalities and turn them into structured test plans with traceable test cases.
- You will design and implement both manual and automated test cases, including Python-based testing, to validate embedded software efficiently.
- You will execute tests in bench setups, vehicles, and HIL environments to verify that software requirements are fulfilled.
- You will investigate software behavior, analyze fault traces, and propose improvements to implementation.
- You will work with diagnostics and communication-related functionality, including validation of protocols and ECU interactions.
- You will, in selected areas, analyze behavior and adjust calibration data to improve performance and ensure signals and data match the intended specification.
- You will document test results, create clear defect reports, and support final verification activities.
- You will help enhance, optimize, and expand the test framework over time.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Embedded Software Engineering, including relevant project work.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems and ECU base functionalities such as software download, VFC/PNC, security access, and communication protocols including CAN and LIN.
- Solid knowledge of tools such as INCA, Canalyzer/CANoe, and diagnostic tools used for communication with ECUs.
- Practical experience testing embedded software with simulation tools such as SIL/HIL systems and with physical ECU hardware in bench and vehicle environments.
- Hands-on experience configuring and setting up vehicle, ECU bench, or HIL test environments for reliable test execution and accurate results.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
