WSO2 API Manager Administrator
Work hands-on with WSO2, Azure AKS, and MCP in a role focused on secure, scalable API management and modern AI-related integrations.
About the Company
At Avaron, you get the security of permanent employment combined with the variety of working at different customers. We place specialists across everything from tech, IT and industry to project management and business support – and whatever the assignment, you have a consultant manager who is there for you and your development.
About the Role
You will take a key role in a large-scale API management environment where stability, security, and modern integration patterns are central. The assignment focuses on running, configuring, and evolving WSO2 API Manager across development, staging, and production, with deployments spanning both Linux-based virtual machines and Azure Kubernetes Service.
You will also work close to emerging AI-related use cases, where LLM APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP) need to be exposed, governed, and monitored through a robust API platform. This is a strong opportunity for you if you enjoy combining platform administration, cloud infrastructure, API security, and modern AI integration patterns.
Job Description
- You administer and maintain WSO2 API Manager environments across development, staging, and production.
- You configure and manage core WSO2 components such as Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, and Traffic Manager.
- You integrate and manage third-party key managers and identity providers together with WSO2 API Manager.
- You deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot WSO2 API Manager on Linux-based virtual machines.
- You support WSO2 deployments on Azure AKS, including pod scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage, and cluster monitoring.
- You onboard and govern LLM-based APIs, including rate limiting, token-based throttling, and usage tracking.
- You set up and maintain MCP servers that expose tools, resources, and prompts to LLM-based clients.
- You troubleshoot MCP client-server integrations across capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, and context handling.
- You apply authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and observability policies to MCP endpoints through the API gateway.
- You define and enforce API governance, lifecycle management, and security standards.
- You monitor API traffic, identify performance issues, and optimize gateway throughput.
- You collaborate with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and deployment automation.
- You maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- You have at least 4 years of hands-on experience administering WSO2 API Manager in version 3.x or 4.x.
- You have strong knowledge of WSO2 core components, including Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager, and Carbon-based architecture.
- You have proven experience integrating third-party key managers and identity providers with WSO2.
- You have experience installing, configuring, and maintaining WSO2 API Manager on virtual machines, including database setup, load balancer configuration, and high-availability deployments.
- You have working knowledge of Azure AKS, including kubectl, Helm charts, node pools, networking, and monitoring.
- You understand how LLM APIs work, including request and response structures, token-based billing, streaming, rate limits, and how to expose and govern them through an API gateway.
- You have deep understanding of MCP architecture, transport layers, session lifecycle, MCP server deployment, MCP client behavior, endpoint security, and troubleshooting of communication issues.
- You have solid knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, API security, and certificate management.
- You have experience with Linux system administration.
Nice to have
- WSO2 certifications.
- Experience with WSO2 Identity Server or WSO2 Micro Integrator.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform or Bicep for Azure infrastructure provisioning.
- Familiarity with API monetization and subscription-tier management.
- Experience building custom mediators or Synapse configurations.
- Experience building or integrating MCP servers using SDKs such as TypeScript, Python, or Java.
- Exposure to prompt engineering or AI/ML API orchestration patterns.
- Experience governing MCP traffic at scale, including routing, load balancing, and monitoring multiple MCP server instances behind an API gateway.
